  1. Warframe How To Trade Items

Each of the frames in Warframe aren’t massively complex to understand. There are many different frame types, which are basically character classes that you can swap between them at any point; assuming you’ve unlocked them first, but they can also be tweaked further with mods. Aside from that, they all move in basically the same way but have four unique abilities.

There’s certainly a lot more to Warframe itself that’s worth delving into, but it may be somewhat intimidating going in blind. If you get stuck, you can always head back over to our main Warframe guide for everything else you need to know about Digital Extreme’s loot shooter.

Warframe frames and mods guide

This guide will go over the frames in Warframe, how to get your first ones, and mods that you can equip to make them more effective in combat. It will also briefly go over Riven mods and what they are.

Warframes are essentially like character classes in other games, meaning that in order to augment your abilities to get the most out of them, you’ll need to equip mods to improve certain aspects of that character. These could increase mobility, reduce the cost to activate abilities, or increase your range – among many others. So how do you go about getting Warframes in the first place? Well, Warframes require a lot of work to unlock (assuming you don’t just outright buy them). Which makes sense, considering it’s basically like getting a brand new character every time you pick one up.

Obtaining your first frames in Warframe

During your early hours in Warframe, you’ll be mostly be getting new Frames by way of bosses. Each planet has its own Assassination boss (some have more than one), and most of those bosses have a chance to drop one of the three Warframe components: Neuroptics, Chassis, and Systems. Typically, the chance of those three dropping are in descending order. So, Neuroptics have a higher chance than Systems to drop. Once you’ve got all three parts, you can (usually) buy the Blueprints to put them all together in the Market. Then, it’s time to build!

Other Warframe components and Blueprints can be picked up by way of certain Quests (Sands of Inaros rewards you with everything you need to build Inaros, for example) or through Clan Dojo research.

Warframe requirements

Some frames require relatively specific conditions to be met in order to obtain the relevant blueprints, such as defeating a boss, completing bounties, or finishing certain quests.
Due to the number of frames currently in the game, the first ten alphabetically are displayed. In order to find the frame you want to know more about, please use the search function and type the name of the frame you wish to know where the various blueprints drop. This list will be updated as and when new frames are introduced into the game.

Tinkering with mods in Warframe

Once you’ve got a Warframe under your belt, it’s time to start levelling it up. All new Frames start at level 1, going all the way up to level 30. As you rank up your Frames, you’ll be able to put more and more mods into them, and that’s where things start to get complicated. Warframe mods can do a whole lot of stuff, like increasing their tankiness, their speed, the strength and duration of their powers, and a whole bunch of other stuff. Most of the time, you’re going to want to be improving on the things that Frames already do well.

Let’s take Rhino for example – one of the oldest Warframes and one you’ll likely get early in your play time. Naturally, Rhino is one of the tankiest Frames in the game. So, you’ll want to make him even tankier. He’s one of the few Warframes with enough natural Armor to take advantage of the Steel Fiber Mod, which increases your Armor by a percentage based on the Mod level. You’ll be wanting to use his second ability Iron Skin a lot, gives him a massive damage buffer based on how much Armor he has; another reason why Steel Fiber is good. You can check our introductory guide to Warframe damage types for more on this. But to cast it regularly, you’ll want to have Streamline (which reduces his abilities’ costs) and Intensify (which makes all of his abilities stronger). From there, you can toy around with other min-maxing opportunities.

Or let’s look at Ember, another early Frame and popular low-level DPS option. Most of Ember’s damage comes from her fourth ability – World on Fire, which does damage over time to enemies within range. Of course, you’re going to want to slot in mods that increase that damage as much as possible (Intensify and Transient Fortitude are popular), increase its range (Stretch and Augur Reach), reduce its cost so it can stay on near permanently (Streamline), and give her as much Energy as possible to keep it on (Flow). Equipping mods that let her get around the map as quickly as possible are always welcome, but not necessary.

Of course, to make sure you can fit all those Mods into a single Frame, you’re going to have to do some work. Installing an Orokin Reactor doubles the Capacity so you can slide mods in, while Aura mods refund some of your Capacity. What’s more, putting a Mod into a slot with its corresponding Polarity will halve the Capacity cost of said Mod. The tricks of the Warframe trade are taking advantage of every last bit of possible Capacity to get your Frames to their strongest state.

Formas help to do that, as well. Once a frame reaches level 30, you can spend a Forma in order to change the Polarity of a slot, even giving slots Polarity that didn’t have it before. You can do this as many times as you want, however every time comes at the cost of dropping the Warframe all the way back to level 1. If you want to add Polarity multiple times to a Frame, be ready to level it over and over again. It’s a process, and a long one.

What are Warframe’s Riven mods?

Riven mods are special mods that have randomised stats. You’ll need to complete the quest “The War Within” to obtain your first one. You’ll then only be able to obtain Riven mods by completing sorties.

Upon first receiving the mod, the stats will be hidden, and the mod considered “veiled” as a result. In fact, all that you’ll be able to gleam from this is the weapon type that it can be attached to. The other thing you’ll be able to see is a challenge you’ll need to complete in order to “unveil” the mod. These will always be listed on the mod itself and can be anything from killing a certain number of enemies while hidden, or killing enemies in a particular way.

So what happens when you unlock it? Well the stats will then be rolled for the weapon, with up to four in total. Some stats are negative to counterbalance the more positive ones. You’ll also see if it is to be attached to a specific weapon. Sometimes the stats will be awful, so thankfully you can re-roll them by spending Kuva – a Grineer resource obtained by killing Kuva Guardians spawning on higher level Grineer maps. You can also spend four unveiled Riven mods via a Riven transmuter (dropped by the Hydrolyst Eidolon in the Plains of Eidolon) to turn them into one veiled Riven mod.

Once you’ve unlocked a ton of mods, you can try to get the best builds. If you want to tinker with your builds without restrictions, there is a dedicated Warframe Builder, where players can show off their builds, the most popular of which rise to the top. It’s an invaluable resource for learning how to build out your favourite Frames.

How to obtain the Revenant blueprint

Finally, we’ll be going over the Revenant – one of the more recent frames introduced, though the Garuda was introduced a little later and has its own Warframe Garuda guide. To obtain the blueprint, you’ll need to complete Nakak’s mini-quest that is unlocked upon reaching “Observer” rank with the Quillis. Talking to her will enable you to buy the “Mask of the Lost One” for the price of one Cetus Wisp. Equipping this mask and entering the Plains of Eidolon during nighttime will start the quest. Following the white waypoint towards the south-west of Gara Toht Lake, a spectral being will vanish. After a few more visions, such as a small hand reaching out of some energy, Nakak will receive visions before asking the player to rebuild what she dubs “the lost one”.

Warframe How To Trade Items

After initiating a bounty and rebuilding part of the Revenant warframe, you’ll be asked to return once again to the Plains of Eidolon at night with the mask. This time it’ll point to the north-east of Gara Toht Lake. Interact with the energy you find there and Nakak will have another vision. Rebuild another part of the warframe with the bounties, becfore returning once more at night. The final energy can be found between Gara Toht Lake and Renthi Spring on a river. You’ll be dragged into the energy portal by a hand and will need to defeat the spectre. Doing so will reward you with the blueprint for the Revenant Warframe, meaning that you only need to acquire one more part of the Revenant Warframe and the relevant parts to make it. Below are the components you’ll need.

Revenant skills

With Update 23.5 that came in August 2018, a brand new frame called the Revenant was introduced. This frame has the following four abilities:

  • Enthrall
    • Cost: 25 energy
    • Damage per second: 250/500/750/1000 damage
    • Thrall influence duration: 15/20/25/30 seconds
    • Convert a target into a thrall. Thralls turn traitor on their allies. If a thrall is killed, they disintegrate into a pillar of energy that deals damage for ten seconds. The thralls remain influenced by this ability until the duration expires. Up to a maximum of seven thralls can be active at once.
  • Mesmer Skin:
    • Cost: 50 energy
    • Number of charges: 3/4/5/6
    • Stun duration: 2/3/4/5 seconds.
    • The Revenant becomes enveloped in Sentient energy, redirecting damage and stunning any attackers. Stunned enemies are able to be enthralled at no cost to energy.
  • Reave:
    • Cost: 75 energy
    • Duration: 0.25/0.5/0.75/1 second
    • Width: 3/4/5/6 metres
    • The Revenant dashes through enemies, draining any shields and health from those it hits. Restorative properties are enhanced for thralls.
  • Danse Macabre:
    • Damage per second: 500/750/1000/1250 damage
    • Boosted damage per second: 1000/1500/2000/2500 damage
    • Beam radius: 0.03/0.05/0.08/0.1 metres
    • Boosted beam radius: 0.05/0.1/0.15/0.2 metres
    • Status infliction chance: 20%
    • Boosted Status infliction chance: 40%
    • The revenant fires nine energy beams that sweep in an area of 50 metres around it. Beams modify damage to select target defences. Incoming damage is redirected back into the beams. Holding fire boosts status effects and damage at the cost of increased energy consumption. Any thralls under your influence that are killed by this ability leave overshield pickups worth 50 points.

Should you wish to dabble into the more powerful Prime Frames or indeed tinker with Prime weapons and the like, be sure to check out the Warframe Prime Relics guide to get started. Alternatively, you can also look at our guide to Warframe materials if you’re looking for tips for gathering credits or materials to upgrade your Warframe mods.

As mentioned in my previous article about Warframe's in-game economy, you can trade in-game items for platinum instead of buying it using real money.

Here is a detailed guide on how to do it.

Not every item in the game is tradable. Here are the types of items which you can trade:

a) Prime Warframe Parts and Weapons

Regular warframe parts and weapons are not tradable. Note that you must trade the blueprints. Once you craft a blueprint or any part of a frame you can no longer trade it.

You obtain prime items from opening relics:

a.1) How to Obtain Relics

Relics are obtained as rewards from completing missions. The most recommended types to obtain them are interception, defense, and excavation missions.

Relics are divided into 4 tiers namely lith, meso, neo and axi. To know specifically where a specific relic drops, go to you codex ---> universe ---> relics and click the relic you are searching for. If you want to know which relic drops a specific item, go to you codex ---> universe ---> relics and type the item name in the search bar. It will filter out the relic/s containing that part.

a.2) Refining relics

Each relic contains different items that are classified per rarity. You can view the items by click on a relic in your relic segment. The brown ones are considered common drops, silver is uncommon and gold is rare. As expected, the rare items sell for much much more.

If you want to increase the chances of getting the rare drop, you have to refine the relics. In order to refine them, you have to do void fissure missions. You can view these missions in the top right corner of your navigation under this symbol:

a.3) Opening relics

You also open your relics during void fissure missions. ALWAYS do void fissure missions in squads, this way can choose which among your squadmates rewards you take as your own. This means that if one of your squadmates obtain a rare drop, you can choose that as yours as well.

PS: You can also sell the relics themselves

b) Mods

Mods are item customization cards that strengthen warframes or weapons. You can view the mods you have from your mod segment.

Like relic drops, they are also classified by rarity. Brown ones are common, blue ones are uncommon, and the gold ones are rare.

b.1) How to Obtain Mods

Mods are dropped randomly from every mission. However, some special mods are only obtainable from specific mission types or events. These mods are a rarer and therefore sell at much higher prices. If you want to know where a specific mod is obtained from, go to your codex ---> universe ---> mods and click on the specific mod you are searching for or simply type its name in the search bar.

c) Ayatan Stars and Treasures

Ayatan stars are random drops during missions. There are two types, cyan and amber. Amber stars are rarer and therefore sell higher.

Ayatan treasures are items used as decoration. They can also be converted to Endo, a resource used to increase the level of mods.

c.1) How to Obtain Ayatan Stars and Treasures

Ayatan stars are obtained from any container from any mission type. Ayatan treasures on the other hand are obtained in two ways. First is by finding them as hidden items in a mission as seen here:

They don't spawn on every mission all the time. It is all based on luck.

The second mission is by going to the Maroo's bazaar in Mars. Talk to her about Ayatan treasures and she will give you a specific mission for you to obtain one. In this mission, you have to complete an obstacle course with a time limit. If you fail to complete the obstacle you fail the mission, thus no Ayatan treasure.

d) Other items

Here are other miscellaneous items you can trade:

Crafted Derelict Keys

Used to access derelict missions. Their blueprints are purchased in the in-game market with credits.

Legendary Core

Used to instantly upgrade a mod to max rank. Can be obtained as a very rare reward from finishing sortie missions.

Riven Mods

A rare type of mod that can only be obtained as a common reward from finishing sortie missions.

Basic Focus Lenses

Focus lenses are used to acquire focus. These are also used as a component of crafting greater focus lenses. They can be acquired by doing bounty missions in the Cetus node on Earth. Greater focus lenses cannot be traded.

Now that we know which items you can and cannot trade, let us now discuss how you trade items.

Finding Customers

There are 3 main ways to find customers, these are the trading chat, Maroo's bazaar and the fan-made website Warframe.market.

a) Trading Chat

This can be accessed by pressing the default chat button T and navigating to the specific channel for trades.

It will be very confusing at first because people use tons of acronyms. These are the basic terminologies:

WTS - Used if you 'want to sell' something
WTB - Used if you 'want to buy' something
WTT - Used if you 'want to trade' something
PMO - Used if you want the buyer or seller to 'private message' you an 'offer' price
Unranked - Mod that has not been upgraded yet
Max ranked - Fully upgraded mod
Set - Full item parts including the main blueprint for a specific warframe or weapon
Bp - Blueprint
p - Indicates the price in platinum Ex: 5p = 5 Platinum

b)Maroo's Bazaar

Maroo's bazaar can be found in the planet Mars.

Here you can set up your own shop or trade with other players selling their items. We'll discuss in detail later how you set up your shop.

c)Warframe.Market

This is a fan-made website where you can post items that you want to sell or buy.

Executing Trades

a) Maroo's Bazaar

Selling

Once you're inside Maroo's Bazaar, press the default emotes/gears button Q. You can change it in the settings menu under the name 'item pop-up.'

This screen will show when you press it:

Click 'Set-Up Shop'

Now you can place the items you want to sell:

You can only advertise 5 items at a time. Once you're done selecting the items you want to sell click on 'Accept Items.' Now you simply have to wait for someone to approach you and you enter into a trade screen. Ensure that your buyer is paying the correct amount of platinum you agreed on before you finalize the trade.

Buying

To buy items in Maroo's Bazaar simply walk up to a person advertising an item you want to buy and press the trade button when the prompt shows up. The default button is E:

b) Trade Chat

Selling

After making a WTS post in the trade chat, wait for somebody to message you regarding that item. After you've agreed on a final price you may choose to either invite that person to your squad or have them invite you. Once you're in a squad, head to your clan dojo(or the other guy's it's your choice.)

Once inside a clan dojo, go to the trading post and enter the trading screen from there:

Trading

dojo trading post

Buying

The steps are all the same except that you make a WTB post in the trade chat and wait for a buyer to offer you a price for it.

c) Warframe.Market

This is by far the most recommended method because it is much more efficient. 90% of my customers are from the market. Another advantage of using the market is that since many players post the same item for sale, you can easily compare prices and buy the cheapest one.

Selling

After registering an account in the market, click the 'Place Order' button in the lower right of the website. This window will pop up where you type an item name, the price you want, and specific details relating to that item:

After that, just wait for a buyer to contact you in the in-game chat and follow the same steps in the Trading Chat method(minus the posting in trade chat of course.)

Buying

Type the item you want to buy in the search bar. It will list the different sellers offering that item as well as their respective prices for it. Filter the sellers for 'in-game' so you will only see sellers that are available for contact.

If you can't find the price you want, filter for 'all' and wait for that player to come online. Scroll over the 'offline' tag to know how active they are.

Once you found an ideal buyer contact them by pressing this button next to their post:

It will show you this message:

Copy and paste that message into the in-game chat and wait for them to reply back. After that just follow the usual steps for trading.

Note that a key difference in the warframe.market method is that you CANNOT negotiate the price anymore.

PS: You can also click 'Place order' and make a 'Want to buy' post but this is very inefficient as sellers seldom look at that section of the website.

I will end the guide here. If I missed any detail or got some details wrong comment it and I will add/correct my post.

Dogeking out.
